No matter how good you are at your job, you’ll still have stressful days. However, it’s how you handle the stress that can make a positive or negative impact on your mindset and abilities.
For professionals who have their well-being in mind, maintaining daily habits can be beneficial to their success. Below, a panel of Young Entrepreneur Council members share the daily practices they adhere to in order to set their days up for success. They explain why these habits are worth sticking to no matter how busy or stressed you are and how they can motivate you to keep going, even when work gets tough.
1. Practice Daily Movement
One habit I practice is daily movement. I find that doing any form of movement is important for my mental and physical health. The daily aspect is key; many of us go an entire day without doing any meaningful movement because we think we don’t have the time. But I find that even 10 minutes of yoga or five minutes of burpees gets the blood moving, which is crucial for my daily focus and productivity. – Cooper Harris, Klickly
One of the critical things I do when I wake up is write. Depending on what I’m thinking and feeling, I’ll use a note-taking tool like Roam Research or write things down on paper. I put down my ideas, problems, to-dos and anything else I can think of. It’s a great way to start the day since I unload what’s on my mind. 3. Prioritize Tasks
To set my day up for success, I prioritize only a few things. If I have too many urgent things on my to-do list, it sets me up for stress and failure. It’s important to distinguish between important tasks and less important tasks so you can delegate how to spend your time efficiently and be the most productive. – Jared Atchison, WPForms
4. Complete A Morning Routine
I wake up at 4 a.m. and do my daily routine, which involves prayer, meditation and personal development. This enables me to prepare my mind before anyone or anything demands my attention or time. This also gives me an extra two to three hours of productive work time before others wake up, making the day already productive. I schedule this in and stick to it. 5. Block Out Time
Time blocking saves me around two hours of work every day and dramatically reduces work-related stress. Essentially, time blocking is when you plan your day in predetermined chunks of time. For instance, 30 minutes goes to checking emails every morning, followed by one hour of meetings. No matter what, I make sure I have time for a quick workout or at least 20 to 30 minutes of meditation. Without this, I find I am much less productive and more easily distracted throughout the day. 7. Eat Healthy Meals And Drink Lots Of Water
I prioritize eating healthy meals and drinking a good amount of water daily no matter what I’ve got going on. It’s so critical to take care of your body so you can perform well in any area of your life. 8. Create A To-Do List
Whether it’s written on paper or in a simple Google Doc, taking the time to create a new to-do list for the next day will help you get everything out of the way before you even start. Creating a daily to-do list means you’ll remember what you’re committed to doing and what you need to let go of. 9. Go For A Walk
One thing I always do is go for a walk every day. There’s something about moving and getting a change of scenery that always leaves me feeling better. Also, walking improves creativity, and doing it early in the day means that you’ll get sunshine and a pleasant stroll before the bustle of the day begins. 10. Read, Read, Read
I read books, articles, blog posts, white papers—whatever I find interesting and compelling. It’s a habit I’ve practiced throughout my personal and professional life. As founders, we face new issues and potential roadblocks daily. 11. Get Enough Sleep
One habit that I always try to follow is to have at least six hours of sleep every day. I think a good night’s sleep can act like magic to reduce stress, improve your mood and increase your focus. It’s also a very important factor for maintaining good health in the long run.
